MILAN SHOW: Ducati's crazy new Scrambler Desert Sled

Published: 07 November 2016

Check this out! The Urban Enduro model in the Scrambler family may have failed to ignite passions with the same verve as the rest of the range, but this new Desert Sled has got just the right mix of retro and contemporary to strike a chord with those looking for a more cheeky Scrambler option.

Highlights

  • New retro Scrambler model
  • 803cc air-cooled Desmodue L-twin
  • 19” front wheel / 17” rear

The facts

  • 75bhp
  • 207kg
  • Seat height 860mm

It’s certainly the most truly Scrambler-esque iteration in the line-up, and with its gold rims and oval tank decals it feels almost like a homage to the iconic Yamaha XT500 – and there’s nothing wrong with that.

TOP STORIES

At its core it is, of course, the same platform as the rest of the range, using the 803cc air-cooled 2-valve head motor mated to a steel trellis frame and capped off with a nice little steel tank.

Up front it wears a gold laced 19” rim, while the rear gets a similarly bling 17” rim, and each wears the almost comic-book styled new Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR rubber. It’s a striking look.

To underline its desert skills, it has bear-claw footpegs with removable rubber inserts for road comfort, and a fairly high 860mm seat, while the frame has been reinforced to cope with more aggressive use and the wide bars get a motocross style brace, too. The fork is a super-fat fully-adjustable 46 KYB unit, while the rear is a fully-adjustable KYB monoshock.

The price is is set at £9395 in red, and £9495 in white, which feels a little sandy to us.
