Dear MCN reader,

The variety and depth in the adventure bike market is so exhaustive that it’s amazing anyone ever manages to make a decision about which bike to buy. It’s lucky that manufacturers don’t tend to print brochures anymore, or there’d be no forests left to ride through, either. This week, we’ve got three brand-new adventurers to add further temptation to your shopping list of options.

First up is the new Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally, the more off-road oriented member of the family (if you never get your boots dirty, go for the GT). Triumph appear to have taken every criticism we, and owners, levelled at the old model, and turned it into a tick-list of problems to solve – and they seem to have nailed almost every item.

But if the size, price, complexity, and capacity of the Tiger are all too hefty, how about the new Yamaha Ténéré 700 Extreme instead – taking on the middle part of the market with its brilliant CP2 engine and a new blend of attributes borrowed from across the range. Far from being a parts-bin special, it could well be the missing link that suddenly makes sense of the gene pool.

And if your budget means you thought a used bike was your only option, take a look at the new CFMoto 450MT we rode this week. At £5699 it’s a whole lot of bike for your money. And just think how much fuel (even at today’s prices) you could buy with the difference.

Or perhaps you never get your boots dirty, but have a penchant for American muscle, saddlebags, big steroes and all the laid-back mile-munching charm of a proper bagger. If that sounds more like your boulevard of dreams, you’ll want to have a nose at our big tests this week, pitching the Indian Challenger Dark Horse versus Harley-Davidson Road Glide.

Victorious Vickers storms BSB

There’s no doubt whatsoever that Navarra is a ‘Yamaha circuit’, but even taking that advantage out of the equation, the performance that Ryan Vickers delivered at the Spanish circuit was impressive. Even a last lap, last corner front-end washout didn’t stop the young Brit standing on top of the podium with a 100% strike rate from the first two races of the new BSB season. So, what’s changed to turn raw talent – but a lot of errors and crashes – into a series-leading position of dominance? We get under the skin of emerging star, Ryan Vickers.

Enjoy the issue!

1 – Caught on candid camera

The threat posed to all road users by distracted drivers handling their phones illegally is immense – but the consequences for bikers is even greater as drivers fiddling with their phones can only exacerbate the SMIDSY effect. So, how is the new breed of AI-driven cameras good for bikers?

2 – Flipping good lid deals

There’s a strong rumour that summer will, at some point, actually arrive, and that’s when flip-front helmets really come into their own – offering in-town fresh air of a jet-style lid, with all the benefits of a full-face beyond city limits. Get the most value for your pound with these hot modular bargains.

3 – Armoured riding jeans reviewed

More and more of us are wearing the new breed of bike jeans for summer rides thanks to their huge range of benefits in terms of style, comfort, and flexibility. But the range of product on offer can be bewildering – so this week MCN staff rate the jeans we’ve covered thousands of miles in.

4 – MotoGP Jerez preview

If the arrival of the MotoGP circus back in Europe can manage to outclass the extraordinary drama of the last round at CoTA, then we’re in for one hell of a weekend. Can Marquez stay on board for the win? Will Acosta take an historic first win on home soil? Or will Viñales continue his run of form?

5 – The Italian job

If you’ve exhausted all the stunning roads and vistas the UK has to offer, or you simply fancy a riding holiday somewhere warmer and drier, then you need to investigate the stunning landscapes of the Tuscany region. That’s exactly what our regular intrepid travel reporter did – now it’s your turn.
