Dainese Axial Race boots, £279.99
Miles covered/time: 20,000 miles/one year.
What’s good? As with my gloves (see left) I’ve used these boots for everything from touring to racing.
They are designed to fit inside your leathers not over the top like other more conventional boots.
They’re really comfortable, both on and off the bike, offering great protection, I’ve crashed twice in these boots and they have offered 100% protection.
What’s not? Apart from the price, the toesliders are in the wrong place and poorly designed.
The sliders are held in place by two Allen bolts, the heads of which quickly grind away meaning you can’t replace the slider. That’s really annoying.
I managed to destroy one side of my boot during one classic race at Cadwell, which proved expensive because I had to replace the whole boot and not just the slider, which you’d have got away with on most other brands.
