Red Wing 877 Men's 8-inch Boot, £250
Miles covered/time: 2000/eight months
What’s good? I have worn other Red Wing boots for years and I would swear by them. To me, these are an iconic traditional boot, made since 1953 and which graced the feet of riders such as Steve McQueen while he had fun off road on one of his many desert sleds. So many boots these days have sewn in linings which eventually wear out and break up, the beauty of these is there is no lining, just the inside of the leather outer.
Beautifully stitched throughout, these 8” boots are extremely comfortable and offer good protection from the elements with their full grain oiled leather, even with lace up fronts, you still have the protection of the sewn in tongue behind to stop the wind and rain. The sole are rather quirky, cushioned white crepe complete with wedge, very comfortable for walking around, but you do notice that due to the wedge sole your feet are a little higher on the peg so you have to reach a little to get under the gear leaver.
A really good traditional boot, that’s made to last.
What’s not? The price. £250 is a lot of money, but they will outlast most other cheaper boots, so look upon them as an investment.
