MCN’s top 5 summer gloves

The days are getting longer and the weekends are getting warmer. Yes, it’s time to look back on some of MCN’s top-rated summer gloves of recent years.

All the products you see here got some of the highest scores in recent staff tests so you can be sure you’re buying something decent.

Held Bagira
MCN says:
“These were the first pair of motorcycling gloves I ever owned. Anything would impress after wearing woollen mittens on a pizza scooter, but I still turn to the Bagiras when the weather warms up. The knuckle armour is solid and has withstood numerous scrapes and impacts, the leather is soft and comfortable and they’re excellently ventilated. If you’re looking to do some street riding or touring in the summer they’re a great choice.”

Spada Elite Race
MCN says:
“At half the price of most full-length racing gloves, these immediately grab your attention. Spada aren’t held in the same esteem as other, more prestigious and expensive brands, but this glove may go some way to changing that. It’d be hard to tell them apart from more established brands on a blindfold test as the leather is immediately soft and comfortable, the armour feels rock solid and they attach very firmly.”

Furygan FRG10
MCN says:
“After a massive crash at Cadwell Park’s Gooseneck I sustained no hand or wrist injuries, and they took a real beating as my fingers went numb for a few minutes. The palm of the gloves have torn and nearly worn all the way through, but apart from that they’ve held up really well. They are made from cowhide, have loads of protection, especially on the knuckles, and give you loads of confidence. I’ve worn them loads over the years in racing – they’re really comfortable, the fit of the palm is really wide (which I personally prefer) and they have good wrist protection, feeling particularly secure once they’re on. They are really well vented, too – perfect for summer riding and racing.”

Alpinestars 365 Gore-Tex
MCN says:
“Along with my lid and earplugs, these gloves are my favourite bits of biking kit. The best thing about them is they’re warm and waterproof, but feel and look every inch like a racing glove. That makes them perfect for riding sports bikes when you need maximum feel for the throttle, front brake and clutch. I wear them for cold track days and when I have to race in the wet, where I bet I’ve always got the warmest, driest hands on the grid. Only the most severe weather makes me reach for a full-on winter glove, but most of the time I prefer to wear these. They’re still wearing well after two years and more than 20,000 miles. They’re worth every penny.”

Alpinestars GP Plus
MCN says:
“They have an excellent fit, and are not too tight across the hand (something which often blights my enjoyment of Alpinestars gloves). The palms are really soft, and allow for excellent feel. I’ve worn these gloves nearly every time I’ve been on track this year. Plenty of protection on the outside, which gives a secure feeling and the third and fourth finger are bridged together, a system pioneered by Alpinestars, and one which I have come to favour.”
