Tucano Urbano Nano rain jacket, £49.99, and trousers, £39.99
Time used: Three months
What’s good: This is rainwear that fits in your pocket. They’re lightweight – the jacket is 180 grams, the trousers 170 – and compact. Both fold into tiny 50cl bags, the size of a small bottle of water.
With some squishing, they should fit in even the tiniest of underseat compartments. They’re easy enough to put on over leathers, although a larger-than-usual size would be advisable of you plan wearing them over bulkier clothing.
What’s not: As an emergency precaution against showers, these are extremely handy. But if you need your waterproofs to withstand persistent heavy downpours, they are less than ideal.
I wore the trousers on my 80-mile ride home from work in May this year, when half the country seemed to be on flood alert. At one point, the skies really opened up and with seconds I had a wet crotch and backside. They’re light because they are insubstantial, and feel fragile.
