RiDE Review: Rukka Armaxis jacket, Armaxion trousers

Published: 14 January 2016

The outer is Gore-Tex Pro Shell, with subtle layers of stretch material and reinforced sections for comfort and strength. It’s heavy in a reassuring way. Armour is D3O. The tester praised the storm collar and cuffs, but criticised the hot-weather performance (“Like a wearable sauna”). Despite having only one pocket, the trousers are the best we’ve seen. Nothing broke or leaked.

Pros: Level 1 back protector and hip armour included • Totally waterproof • Heavy-duty construction gives a real feeling of security • Jacket has good storm collar and well designed double cuff with Velcro adjuster • Softshell inner jacket and thermal liner make it warm in cold weather • Well cut, with enough adjusters to make it just right for any bike • Six-year warranty

Cons: Vents are small, so it’s fairly sweaty on hot days • Inner jacket is fiddly to fit and rucks up • Trousers have only one pocket
