Time tested: Four months/6500 miles
What’s good? Gone are the days of loading up on layers, waddling around like the Michelin man in a hot, sticky frustrated mess before clambering aboard my bike in a puddle of sweat. And I couldn’t be more grateful. Forget layering systems and tight sleeves, I now simply wear a long-sleeve T-shirt, this Gerbing heated layer and then my bike jacket. That’s it, whatever the temperature.
The jacket is a quality product, well made and most importantly – gives you a warm cuddle as you fly down cold motorways. The heated elements are in the torso, arm and collar. It’s also got the highest heat setting of any heated clothing I’ve tested. It’s quick and easy to connect with a single wire. There’s also the option of a wireless controller (£99), which is the best thing since sliced bread. Simply attach the unit to your handlebar and adjust your glove and jacket temperature with a quick turn of the dial. Absolutely brilliant.
What’s not? My only gripe is that the wires which connect to the gloves from the jacket are a little short when used in motorcycle jackets with storm cuffs. It’s doable, but a small faff.
