I've been using the Contour HD Helmetcam bought from Dogcamsport here in the UK for around six months now and thought I'd share it as a couple of folk had asked about which cam I was using to post videos.
It's still relatively unknown here in the UK, but deserves to be much more popular here. The unit itself is an all in one and attaches to your helmet via a mount to your helmet or wherever you'd like on your bike.
There's also a ram mount system available. There's a simple slide on/off switch on top that's easy to use on the move, even with gloved hands.
The Contour HD model that I have is the 720p and the results have been the best I've seen so far.
There is also a new super duper 1080p model just been released. The cam records directly to micro sd cards and will take a max capacity card of 16gb, which gives 8 hours of hi-def footage.
The cam also comes with its own software to install to either PC or Mac although I've been using iMovie on my MAC.
Downloading has been simple enough with USB connection. What's good is that the Contour HD takes a standard Nokia sized battery (which is rebadged by the company), so I have three spares at a fiver each, although the manufacturer obviously sell their own...at £15 each...!
Overall, the contour hd has been one of the best camera buys that I've made and I've tried quite a few over the past five years and nothing beats the contour hd for simplicity of use, video quality and price.
The Contour HD is priced at £225 in the UK.
