V2 Sponge, £6.64 for two packs
Used for: Six months
What’s good: My first experience of a V2 sponge was on an early morning ride in North Yorkshire. Mucky roads and low-angle sunshine were wrecking what should have been a fantastic ride and making me dog slow (well, even slower than usual…).
My mate waited to see what was up and when he saw my visor, summoned a V2 from his jacket pocket.
Thirty seconds later, I was back on the road and happy as Larry. Superb. The sponge couldn’t be easier to use, all you have to do is keep it wet (in the provided plastic bag) and give it a rinse now and then.
A few wipes and a buff with one of the cloths included in the pack and 20-20 vision is restored.
It even rids your visor of squashed flies, just so long as you haven’t allowed them to dry on too badly. Good value multi-packs are available, so it could be worth clubbing together with some biking friends and stocking up.
What’s not: They don’t last forever – as you can see from the picture my sponge is pretty knackered. And you have to use your common sense, making sure that you keep the sponge relatively clean and definitely free from any grit (so don’t go dropping it on the tarmac).
The manufacturers advise that you don’t use the sponge on any anti-fog coatings, but since these will be on the inside of your visor while all the grime should be on the outside, that’s not too much of an issue.
