Held Titan sports gloves £216.99 (plus £65.10 made to measure fee)
Miles covered/time: 6000+/nine months
What’s good: More construction detail than a model aircraft. Here are some highlights: pre-curved palms and fingers don’t cause ‘bunch-up’, use of abrasion-resistant stingray leather in key areas, a serious amount of shock absorbing and strengthening material hidden under panels, a connecting bridge between the little and third finger, carbon knuckle protector with titanium plate covering, strong wrist and cuff restraints, seams that don’t aggravate. Another cherry on the cake is the visor wipe built into the first finger of the left glove. To sum up these Held gloves takes just two words: the bollocks. There’s more, though…
Held’s Titan, Phantom and Chikara sport gloves can be made-to-measure and in a choice of colours to suit, plus embroidered name placement – as seen here on my gloves. Made-to-measure doesn’t just mean big or small and in between hands can now have precise fit gloves, but anybody with misshapen hands (crash damage or natural defect) can be catered for.
There is a charge for the made-to-measure service, which is a flat 30% of the gloves’ retail price. For my Titan gloves – in between large and extra-large, and allowing for distorted bone structure – add another £65.10 to the retail price.
What’s not: Some people will baulk at the thought of paying £282 for gloves, but if you want the best and bespoke to boot then Held’s gloves are the end all and be all. The only aggravation you’ll encounter is getting out of the armchair to visit a Held dealer for the measuring service.
