Parts Review: Touratech Zega Pro topbox and mount

Touratech Zega Pro topbox and mount, £534.31
Time tested: Three months/4000 miles
What’s good? The build quality, styling and practicality of this aluminium topbox is sensational. It stays on my long term Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring and is used for everyday commuting to work and when I need to ride to jobs for MCN. It’s simple to use, easy to lock and on a recent trip back from Italy managed to stay impregnable through 500 miles of lashing rain. The Rapid Trap catch on the back means it can be unhooked from the bike without getting to the catch on the inside base of the box yet also locked in place.
What’s not? The price is £100 more than you will pay for an official Ducati topbox but the extra security from the alloy construction is worth it in my opinion. The catch is stiff to operate and if you leave the key in when you snap open the catch it can crush your finger. Also, the wire that stops the lid opening too far is mounted the wrong side for bikes with a sidestand as it’s too easy to get the wire trapped in the lip of the box and lid.
