Luggage Review: Ortlieb 89-litre Rack Pack

Ortlieb 89-litre Rack Pack, £62

Tester: Tony Hoare

Miles/time: 13,000 miles/eight years

What’s good? Stuff this full of kit, secure the roll-top closure and no water shall pass. If Ortlieb don’t guarantee that then I will. I’ve been on at least 10 big trips with this bag, in some truly abysmal weather, and I’ve never seen so much as a drop of water get inside. It’s flexible enough to carry small or large loads, including taking one-piece leathers to track days, and will bungee to the pillion seat of anything on which I’ve tried it, including a tricky 2009 R1. The best product I own.

What’s not? There are no external pockets, making it an ordeal of undoing four clip straps and unrolling the bag to get out anything that I may need on a journey. So that stuff goes in a jacket pocket, tankbag or rucksack.
