Shock rebuild by Brook Suspension, £185

What's good: It’s saved over £100 compared to getting a replacement shock for my Kawasaki KR1S. If it hadn't needed a new rod as part of the rebuild, a further £75 could have been saved. A new shock would have meant losing the damping adjuster mounted on the sub-frame, which instead I keep. Plus I get to say the bike is original, which is nice with a modern classic.
What's not: An aftermarket replacement might have performed better. Apparently KR1S shocks were never exactly amazing to begin with. This feels soft when you sit on the bike, with some travel taken up just by your weight even with the preload wound down. But it's firm enough once you're actually riding and Brook Suspension assure me it's been rebuilt to original specifications, so I can't fault the work.
