BSB beats BTCC

Shane Byrne won the Battle of Brands Hatch with a convincing ride leading BTCC driver Tom Chilton by 15 meters.

The race was one lap of the Indy circuit of Brands Hatch to see who would win out of a selection of British Touring Car drivers and BSB riders.

To make it a fair fight the competitors were riding KMX Karts, three wheel pedal stunt carts. Meaning that the touring car drivers lose a wheel and the riders gain one.

The promotional race was held at Brands as both competitions will be held there within a week of each other.

Representing British Superbikes was Shakey, Tommy Hill and Michael Rutter. Tommy finished third just behind Chilton. Hill said, “You don’t realise how steep the hills are at Brands until you have to pedal up them. I shouldn’t have worn my leathers either.”

Tom Chilton, David Pinkney and Darren Turner represented the touring car faction. Pinkney finished fifth and Turner didn’t finish when his kart suffered a mechanical failure.

Rutter was disqualified due to blatant cheating when he tampered with another rider’s machine. But he claimed he would have won if his keys hadn’t fallen out of his pocket.

Byrne was more than happy, “It was a lot harder than I thought. I’m really happy with the win though and looking forward to more of the same when I come back to Brands with the bike.”

Next year’s competition will have golf buggies as the form of transport.
