Joshua Coppins extends lead in MX1 championship after win in Bulgaria

1 of 1

Joshua Coppins has extended his lead the MX1 Motocross World Championship following another overall victory at the Grand Prix of Bulgaria last weekend.

The New Zealand Yamaha rider recorded a second in race one and won race two at the Sevlievo circuit with race one won by KTM’s Jonathan Barragan.

The undulating Sevlievo circuit was host to round 15 of the MX1 championship with sweltering conditions taking its toll on many of the riders in front of a 26,000 strong crowd.

Race one saw 27-year-old Steve Ramon (Suzuki) trail behind Jonathan Barragan, Josh Coppins and Sebastien Pourcel who were to finish in that order.

Josh Coppins did not have it all his own way in the second race as Steve Ramon battled it out at the front as the pair tried to catch Mike Brown for much of the MX1 race. Once past Mike Brown, Josh Coppins races away in to the distance.

The injured Kevin Strijbos is expecting to have news on his injured left knee early this week and may be able to start light training with a view to return in time for the next Grand Prix.
