Thundersport announces National sidecar series

Thundersports GB have announced a new National F1 Sidecar championship.

Although billed as the “Battle of Britain” the organisers claim that the provisional entry list is a ‘who’s who’ of worldwide sidecar racing talent, and as such, is the highest ranking series outside of the World Championship.

The Championship – which pays a £4000 purse per round and is covered by Motors TV – will be organised and administered by Thundersport GB and promoted by RKBF1 over eight weekends on eight of the top UK racing circuits with 24 of the world’s top sidecar teams selected to form the core of the championship and a further 10 local crews selected for each venue.

The permanent teams will not only benefit from free entry (worth £2,200 each), but will also be competing for their share of the £32,000 guaranteed prize fund, whilst one-event teams will also be invited at no cost and have the possibility of invitation to further rounds via performance based incentives thanks to RKBF1 and their associate sponsorship partners.

The new championship will feature no less than three sidecar World Champions and the very best of the up and coming British and European youngsters.

Former 10-time World Sidecar champion Steve Webster MBE said “This is the best news for Sidecars in the last 15 years.

“It will showcase the area of motorcycle racing that we dominate on the world stage and for the public to have eight chances to see the best teams in the world performing in Britain is just fantastic.

“I will be supporting the series in a promotional role at every round and I just can’t wait for the series to start.”
