Danes through to speedway team final

The British speedway team will face Denmark in the world cup final in Poland on Saturday night after the Danes won last night’s qualifying round in Sweden.

Despite resting their two top riders, the Danes were still strong enough to comfortably see off Sweden, Czech Republic and Latvia in the qualifying round at Vastervik.

Denmark’s team manager announced after the meeting that Grand Prix racers Niels-Kristian Iversen and Nicki Pedersen will be back in the four-man team for Saturday’s final, with Mads Korneliussen and Peter Kildemand keeping their places from the side that qualified.

The Swedes and Czechs now go to tomorrow night’s (Thursday) Race-Off in Bydgoszcz, Poland, where they will face Australia and the United States, who finished second and third behind Britain in their qualifier at King’s Lynn last weekend.

The winner of the meeting, which is being broadcast live on British Eurosport at 5.45pm GMT, will take the last place in Saturday’s final at the same Bydgoszcz track alongside Denmark, Britain and Poland as host nation.
