Lampkin makes history at the SSDT

History was made at the weekend as the 2016 Scottish Six Days Trial came to close with Dougie Lampkin sealing an unprecedented and record extending tenth win.

At forty years old Lampkin is now the oldest and youngest (aged 18 in 1994) rider to win the SSDT and the victory adds to an unrivaled trophy haul including an impressive twelve FIM Trial World titles and ninety-nine Grand Prix wins. To put Dougie’s latest achievement into context, no other rider has won the SSDT more than five times during its more than one hundred year history.

Dougie’s SSDT victory comes a little over a month after the sad passing of his father Martin, who was a former three times winner of the Scottish himself, and who will have been heavily in Dougie’s thoughts throughout what has been an extraordinary week for the veteran champion.

Speaking afterwards Dougie reflected on his week’s work. “It’s difficult to put into words just how I feel right now as it has been an incredibly tough week both mentally and physically. Just a few weeks back I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to ride, but after my mum had a word with me there was no chance I was getting out of it.”
