Former world champion Max Biaggi has been admitted to hospital in Rome with what are being described as ‘severe’ injuries following a crash wile training on his supermoto bike on Friday morning in his native Italy.

Riding at the Sagittarius circuit in Latina, 70km south of the capital, the 45-year-old was transferred to hospital in Rome by ambulance with what local media are describing as ‘severe’ but not life threatening injuries.

Biaggi is a frequent supermoto rider, both in his native Italy and at his home in Monaco, racing regularly at the Sagittarius track. However, the track also has bad memories in the past, with former Grand Prix winner Doriano Romboni dying in a crash at the venue during the annual Marco Simoncelli memorial race in 2013.
