Shakey signs for Stobart

Shane Byrne will team up with the team with which he won the British Superbike title after he re-signed to join Paul Bird’s Stobart Honda team for 2007.

Byrne revealed to MCN that he turned his back on the chance of a factory-backed Yamaha World Superbike ride to grab the best remaining ride in BSB, to try and return the team to its title-winning glory years.

He won the BSB title on a MonsterMob Ducati in 2003.

Speaking to MCN from his home in Spain, Byrne said: “This means a lot to me, and it’s a fantastic chance to prove myself again to people.

“I know the team, and we will be grafting hard this winter to be ready for the start of the season. From what I could see of the Honda last year it looked a much more balanced package than the Suzuki, so I’m really looking forward to riding it.”

The team have so far refused to confirm Byrne’s signing.
