British Superbikes Donington Park: BSB organisers contemplating single tyre series

1 of 1

The day before Dorna announce that they are considering making MotoGP a single tyre series, the British Superbike paddock is already in the throws of a similar change.

Series organisers MCRCB have released a statement to the BSB and BSS teams explaining why they think both championships should be ran with a single tyre manufacture.

Discussions will take place with all the teams about the proposal up until the deadline of October 5 when a final decision will be made.

If the decision does go in favour of a one tyre series for both the litre and 600 class, tyre manufactures will have the opportunity to put a bid in to win the role as the sole tyre provider.

With the confirmation that Michelin will no longer be supplying the HM Plant Honda squad after the end of this season, the battle will be between Dunlop and Pirelli.

Dunlop already supply the bulk of the BSB paddock while the Supersport teams are virtually equally split between the French tyre manufacture and Pirelli.

However, Pirelli already has credentials in supplying a single make series with World Superbikes, and the change would allow the BSB field to enter UK based rounds of the World Championship.

To find out the full reaction from the race teams check out the next issue of MCN out on September 26.
