Shane Byrne helmet raises £820

A one-off Shane Byrne replica helmet has sold on eBay and raised £820 for the Kent rider’s chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The specially-designed helmet was part of a competition from the start of the year that Byrne wore during the first of the two Oulton Park rounds in 2008.

The helmet was designed by 10-year old Claudia Painter, from Bournemouth who presented ‘Shakey’ with the Helmet at Oulton Park in July.

Following the sale of the lid, Byrne said: “I suffered a big loss in my life because of cancer.

“I hope that the money raised from the auction of this helmet can go some way, however big or small, towards helping others similarly affected whilst also highlighting the great work carried out by the people at Macmillan Cancer Support.”
