Simon Andrews plans busy off season

What do you do if you are a BSB rider when the off-season comes? You carry on racing of course.

Take Simon Andrews. He outlined his future plans for MCN:

“I’m doing Daytona 8H the week after Oulton with Gary Mason and maybe another British rider – and we’re all probably going to ride in the same team.

“Then I’m off to Australia to ride in the King of Wanneroo meeting (the organisers have lined up several Brits and are supplying production machines to race against the local stars).

“From there I’m going on to Macau where I’ll ride my regular BSB MSS Kawasaki.

“I’m bored riding the same old tracks and it’s a chance to see the world.”

So with Andrews doing a race on pure roads for the first time in his career, has he ever considered racing at the TT?

He said: “I’m not doing the TT – not for the next few years anyway.

“But if you look at the old days – how riders did lots of different meetings all over the place to make money – I think we’re going to have to start making those sort of guest appearances to make up our wages as things get tighter and tighter.”

Andrews is going back to club racing this weekend – to help out with a magazine feature!

He said: “I’m riding in a club meeting at Oulton Park this week. I’m doing a feature for Bike magazine. The aim is to prove you can take a stock motorcycle out of the box and win a club race on it.

“The only concession I’m getting is race tyres on an otherwise stock ZX-10.

“Man, I’ve got to win otherwise people are going to think I’m a right tool!”
