Oulton BSS: McConnell wins as title rivals fall

Billy McConnell has taken a win in the British Supersport sprint race at Oulton Park, as his main title rivals failed to score points in a dramatic 12 lap dash race, with Alastair Seeley and Graeme Gowland crashing out in strange circumstances.

McConnell led off the line, and despite dicing with Seeley for the lead in the early tags of the race was able to take the lead and pull ahead slightly by mid distance. Seeley and Gowland then both crashed out at Lodge, with Seeley going down and Gowland seemingly following him into the gravel.

“I wasn’t aware of what had happened behind me just saw the gap on my pit signals and kept chipping away. The whole team is working well and we are on good form – we tested here and that made the race easier as we got a good set-up,” said race winner McConnell.

With the duo out of the race, Luke Stapleford, who had been left behind in fourth, inherited second place, while Glen Irwin was able to secure third place and the title lead along with it.
