BSB: Haslam: 'We need to return to winning ways!'

Leon Haslam will be looking to get his 2016 MCE British Superbike title fight back on track at Brands this weekend after a strong second place at the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hour.

Haslam endured one of his worst weekends since returning to the championship from World Superbikes last time out at Thruxton with a 13th and 5th place all he could take away from a disastrous weekend for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team.

With all three of the team’s riders struggling with power delivery issues at the Hampshire circuit, GBmoto’s technical team have been working non-stop over the past ten days to resolve the problems.

With Haslam on his way back from Japan, team-mate James Ellison was sent out to test the improved ZX-10R package over the past two days, telling MCN his initial impressions were that there had been a significant step forward from Thruxton.

Haslam sits 15 points behind rival Shane Byrne in the title standings, but it’s the ten-point deficit in podium points he needs to cut into this weekend.

“I am heading back to Brands Hatch really happy after a great result at Suzuka,” said Haslam. “It’s now time to focus on BSB again, and the JG Speedfit boys have been working really hard behind the scenes, developing the bike and working to overcome the challenges we encountered at Snetterton and Thruxton so I’m looking forward to trying to get back to winning ways this weekend.

“I know James is out testing some of the things that should help us this week, so we’ll catch up on Thursday and go through the changes ready for opening practice on Friday.”
