BSB: Haslam championship leader as series heads to Knockhill

Leon Haslam says leading the 2016 MCE British Superbike championship standings doesn’t change anything for him as the series heads north to Knockhill this weekend.

As the fourth round of the 2016 season is set to get underway in Scotland, Haslam remains the only rider to have won more than one race this year with victories at both Oulton Park and Brands Hatch. The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider leads Shane Byrne in the title chase by three points with Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon a further step back.

Haslam overcame a plethora of technical problems in last week’s Snetterton test to run competitive lap times on Thursday morning, ranking second fastest in the test’s overall classification despite rain interrupting the second day.

“Although Knockhill is another circuit I’ve not visited for eight years, and is very different to the tracks I’m used to, it’s a place I’m really looking forward to going back to,” he said. “I’ve won in the past round here and after a very good test at Snetterton I’m confident we can be challenging for top honours again this weekend.

Coming in as Championship leader doesn’t change the way I approach things – it’s fantastic to be leading the series already, particularly after the technical problems at Silverstone, but it’s a long season! The bike is getting better with every outing, and we still have new components planned to be arriving throughout the rest of the year which will hopefully mean we can keep taking steps forward and arrive at the Showdown in the best possible position.”
