BSB: Guintoli returns to Britain with Hawk Bennetts Suzuki

2014 World Superbike Champion Sylvain Guintoli will make a return to the MCE British Superbike Championship next year after penning a deal with the all new Hawk Suzuki squad.

After much rumour and speculation on his future, the Frenchman will be setting out to finish what he started when he last rode in the British Championship in 2009, when he took pole position and won the opening race of the year before being ruled out for most of the remainder of the season with a serious leg injury at the second round.

Guintoli will pilot Suzuki’s all-new GSX-R1000 in the new Hawk squad, which will be known as Bennetts Suzuki after the insurance giant renewed their relationship with Suzuki for a third consecutive year.

“I’m really happy to be back in British Superbikes,” he said. “Even though it was short, I enjoyed my time in the series in 2009 with Suzuki. I had a really good start to the season on the GSX-R1000, with a win and three more podiums in four races, and I feel like I have unfinished business after that year. I’m now looking forward to working with Hawk and the Bennetts Suzuki team for 2017 and getting my first taste of the new GSX-R1000, and I’m sure we can fight at the front from the start.”

Guintoli will join Superstock 1000 champ Taylor Mackenzie in the squad, but it’s not yet known whether the youngster will be defending his Superstock title or fighting alongside the Frenchman in BSB.
