BSB: Iddon thrilled to have podium pace

Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon left the second round of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch with increased confidence after a double podium on the 1.2 mile Indy circuit.

The Stockport rider had been frustrated ahead of the season’s start after suffering from many of the same issues he’d struggled with last year throughout 2017 pre-season testing.

He even admits to not being convinced by his rostrum performance at Donington, a track that suits both his style and the BMW, but two strong results at Brands Indy has left him confident they’re now on the right track.

It was at the Kent circuit that 2016 started to go downhill for Iddon after four podiums from the opening four races, so to podium twice this weekend leaves him feeling good about moving on to Oulton Park, where he came close to winning his first ever BSB race last year.

“I’m peaking, it was two really strong races for us this weekend,” Iddon told MCN. “I wasn’t all too positive after pre-season testing as I was frustrated we were still experiencing a lot of the issues from last year.

“Even the Donington podium didn’t convince me as we’ve always gone well there, but this weekend has been a real turnaround for us and I can’t not be happy with that.”
