BSB: Young gun Mossey takes debut victory at Brands

1 of 1

Young gun Luke Mossey took a jubilant debut MCE British Superbike victory in the opening race at Brands Hatch Indy this afternoon.

The 24-year-old got a steady start behind team-mate Leon Haslam and James Ellison, but when Haslam ran wide the young gun took his opportunity to dart towards the front.

McAMS Yamaha’s Ellison was on a mission at the front, clearly looking to gap Mossey in the early stages but his attempts were unsuccessful as the JG Speedfit Kawasaki man remained on his tail.

Drama would then strike for Ellison as he crashed out of the lead at Druids, leaving Mossey to inherit the lead and the gap they were building over Haslam in third.

Elevated to second, Haslam soon came under pressure from Iddon who moved into the runner-up spot towards the end of the race, but a charging Shane Byrne would challenge the duo in the closing laps. Haslam came out on top of the three lap battle with Byrne just missing out on the rostrum to Iddon.

Dan Linfoot took a strong fifth as Honda continue to show signs of improvement, ahead of Glenn Irwin and Jason O’Halloran. Peter Hickman and Josh Brookes completed the top ten.

Bennetts Suzuki’s tough start to the season continued with a retirement for Sylvain Guintoli.
