BSB: Haslam working on soft tyre pace

Leon Haslam was upbeat despite sitting seventh on the timesheets on the opening day of practice for the eighth round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider spent both of the day’s sessions working on tyre life with Pirelli’s softer option rear as he prepares for Sunday’s two races. Haslam’s Kawasaki has been known to be particularly tough on the softer rubber over race distance, especially compared to rival Shane Byrne so it’s something he’s been keen to work on ahead of the three Showdown rounds.

“The position might not show it but I’m really happy,” Haslam told MCN. “We ran one tyre in both sessions concentrating on race runs and set our fastest lap at the end of the run on lap 15 so I can’t complain.

“We raced the softer tyre here last year so it’s all we’re looking at this weekend. We’ve got to make it last so that’s what we’re trying to work with, it already seems to be going quite well so if we can make another step tomorrow we should be good.”
