BSB: Giugliano gets first taste of BMW power

1 of 1

Davide Giugliano got a first taste of BMW power as he tested the all-new HP4 Race in Spain earlier this week.

The former WSB star is set to join the Tyco BMW team in the MCE British Superbike Championship this year, moving away from the Italian V4 and V-Twin machinery he has campaigned throughout his Superbike career.

Riding an inline-four for the first time since his days in European Superstock, Giugliano will join Christian Iddon in the Northern Irish team.

He’ll get his first taste of the S1000RR race bike at Cartagena in just under two weeks’ time, but was treated to an outing on the carbon fibre framed HP4 race ahead of his first test.

“For my first time riding the BMW and especially the very special HP4-R, I had a really good feeling on the bike,” he said. “For sure it is a lot different from the ones I have ridden in previous years, which is understandable as it is a 4-cyclinder set-up. But already after just one day of testing, my feeling was very good and I found many features on the BMW that I like very much.

“The HP4-R that I had the opportunity to test is different to the bike we will use at Tyco BMW for this year’s British Championship, but it was a great opportunity to ride an amazing bike and get some valuable track time before I test with my team at the end of the month. The test also helped me gain confidence after a winter away from racing, so I’m looking forward very much to riding and racing the Tyco BMW S1000R very soon.”
