BSB: Mossey not thinking about championship chances

1 of 1

Luke Mossey has said he isn’t thinking about his MCE British Superbike Championship prospects despite team-mate Leon Haslam being ruled out of action this weekend.

Mossey trails Haslam by just three points ahead of this weekend’s two races and with the series leader out, he looks to be in a good position to take over at the top of the standings this weekend.

However, the young gun is keen not to think about where he is in the championship as he continues to build on the success he’s already achieved this year after his double victory at the Brands Indy circuit earlier this year.

“We’ve had a long time off the bike with seven weeks off,” he said. “It’s unfortunate for the guys who crashed this morning. That’s made it a bit of a weird day with all of the red flags.

“The bike was good, we were third in FP1 and then went quickest in FP2 even though it drizzled a bit at the start. The time was under the lap record and quicker than I’ve ever been round here, so I’m pretty pleased with that.

“It’s unfortunate for Leon that he’s got to miss this weekend while leading the championship. The last time I ever led a championship was in 2009 in Superstock 600, but we’re not thinking about that too much at the moment. I just want to keep building up my points and then if we’re there at the end of the year we’ll have a good go at taking the title.”
