Fonsi Nieto will be starting Sunday’s 250cc British GP in pole position after setting the fastest time in the qualifying sessions at MCN Donington Park.

Manuel Poggiali was the fastest rider in Saturday’s second qualifying session but he could not beat the time set by Nieto on Friday, falling short by 0.356 seconds.

Tony Elias was close behind Poggiali with a time of 1:34.386 while Yamaha Kurz rider Naoki Matsudo finished the front row of the grid with a 1:34.398 lap.

Randy De Puniet, Franco Battaini, Roberto Rolfo, and Sebastian Porto make up the second row, all finishing less than a second behind Nieto.

British rider Jay Vincent knocked nearly a second off his time from Friday’s session to qualify in 11th, while Chaz Davies held on to 17th.

The only rider not to qualify was Brit Andrew Sawford who was just two tenths of a second outside the maximum time.
