World Champion Valentino Rossi put himself back at the top of the pile again after finishing the three-day Phillip Island test with the fastest time.

Rossi finished the session with a best lap of 1:29.68, 0.4 seconds under his qualifying time from 2004. But Sete Gibernau, who had dominated the previous two days, decided not to ride in the final session, happy with his progress.

Rossi’s best lap was 0.2 seconds better than Gibernau’s previous best.

Nicky Hayden took his Honda to the second fastest time closely followed by the Ducati of Carlos Checa. Max Biaggi took fourth spot followed by Loris Capirossi and Colin Edwards.
