Gibernau ups the pace

The Ducati GP team has had a much-improved second day of testing at Jerez, despite the cold weather, with Sete Gibernau setting the best lap.

Loris Capirossi and new team-mate Gibernau spent the day testing the 2006 machine putting in over 60 laps each.

Capirossi concentrated on improving the bikes engine mapping as well as working on a new set of Ohlins suspension.

Gibernau is still getting used to the new machine having only ridden it a few times before, concentrating on setting it up for his riding style, but still managed to put in a faster lap than his team-mate.

Capirossi put in a best lap of 1:41.489 while Gibernau managed 1:41.466.

“Today we focussed on set-up and suspension work” said Gibernau. “It was useful to get to know exactly what I need to find the right feeling with the new bike. We made progress and managed to find a path that seemed right. With this set-up tomorrow we can concentrate more on the engine mapping. We are making small steps forward to avoid going in the wrong direction. I also tested the new tyres and started to give a few indications to the Bridgestone guys.”
