Marco Melandri has gone fastest in the first practice session for the inaugral Turkish GP in Istanbul on October 23, 2005.
The Movistar Honda rider posted a best time of 1:54.639 over 29 laps, putting him ahead of reigning champion Valentino Rossi by around 0.5 seconds. Third quickest was John Hopkins in a session which saw many riders leave the track on the first corner as they learnt the new circuit.

Having topped the morning practice, the Movistar Honda rider again went quickest in the second session as his times dropped from 1:54.639 to 1:53.506. Sete Gibernau improved to go second quickest, with Nicky Hayden third in the session
