Honda track merger

1 of 1

Two of the three circuits in Japan owned by Honda will merge in June, 2006, with Suzuka and Twin Ring Motegi coming under the same management.

Prior to the agreement, Honda will obtain all outstanding shares of Suzuka to make it a wholly-owned subsidiary. Both circuits will then share the same management, under the name Mobilityland Co.Ltd. The aim is to save some of the costs involved in running race circuits at a time when reports claim various tracks are facing financial problems, particularly with an eye on bike tracks which also run Formula One car racing.

Current reports are focusing on the difficulties faced by the Hockenheim track, which is thought to be heavily in debt, as reported by the BBC website (click here, external site). Luckily the MotoGP championship will visit the Sachsenring on July 16, 2006, while World Superbikes will be hosted by the Lausitzring on September 11, 2006.

The MotoGP championship will visit the Twin Ring Motegi circuit on September 24, 2006.
