Jenkner retires from GPs

German 250cc GP racer Steve Jenkner has announced his retirement after nine seasons in the world championship.

The 29-year-old has taken the decision following long negotiations. 2005 was his first year in the 250cc class, following eight seasons on a 125. On an Aprilia for the Nocable.it team he had a disapointing season, finishing 23rd in the championship and missing two races due to injury.

His best results were in 2002, when he finished fifth in the 125cc championship, and 2003, when he finished sixth and won the Assen round. He now aims to help young German riders.

Also leaving MotoGP is the former WCM rider Franco Battaini, who makes the switch to World Superbikes with Team Bertocchi. He’ll be up against Troy Bayliss, Ruben Xaus, Roberto Rolfo, Alex Barros and possibly Max Biaggi in Superbikes.

In the 125cc class, Aspar Racing has signed Alvaro Bautista to ride alongside Hector Faubel, Mattia Pasini, Sergio Gadea and Mateo Tunez in the largest team in GP racing.
