Checa suprises in FP2

Carlos Checa has set the second fastest time in FP2 at the Dutch TT in Assen. Camel Yamaha’s Colin Edwards took provisional pole setting consistently fast times keeping him at the top of the time sheets throughout the session. Hobbling Valentino Rossi limped to 12th position, 1.3 seconds adrift of Edwards after his huge off in FP1 this morning resulting in wrist and ankle injuries.

Britain’s own James Ellison qualified in 13th provisionally behind Hayden, Pedrosa and Rossi leading the likes of Capirossi and Hoffmon on the works Marlboro Ducati’s and Marco Melandri riding with injuries from the horror Catalunya crash sustained last week. Melandri’s Fortuna Honda team-mate Toni Elias crashed this morning and won’t be racing on Saturday.
