Melandri tops Italy test

As if a weekend’s racing at Mugello wasn’t enough for the MotoGP boys, most of them stayed on for an extra test session.

Marco Melandri finished the extra day at the top of the time sheets after spending the day working on improving the cornering on his Fortuna Honda.

The second and third fastest times went to the Repsol Hondas of Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa with Hayden finishing nearly half a second ahead of his team-mate. He also spent the most time out on track, putting in 73 laps.

Colin Edwards took the fourth fastest time, closely followed by Valentino Rossi with both riding the new chassis first debuted by Rossi in Le Mans.

The rest of the teams spent most of their time working on small tweaks to both bikes and tyres.
