Valentino Rossi has stayed at the top of the time sheets following the second free practice session for the Italian GP.

The Camel Yamaha rider posted a fastest time of 1:51.732s to remain ahead of Ducati’s Loris Capirossi. Both the top two riders completed just nine laps during the second session, lease than the rest of the field, with Nicky Hayden and Shinya Nakano completing 22 and 23 laps respectively. Sete Gibernau is third fastest, with John Hopkins moving up to fourth quickest.

Also on the move is Dani Pedrosa, who has jumped up three places to 12th quickest, just faster than Colin Edwards. Britain’s James Ellison has gone 18th quickest, just under two seconds slower tham Tech 3 team-mate Carlos Checa, but quicker than Jose Luis Cardoso. To see the full time sheet, click here.

In the 250cc class first qualifying, Jakub SMrz has put himself on provisioanl pole of the Cardion AB Aprilia with a time of 1:55.412, ahead of Hector Barbera on the Fortuna Aprilia and Andrea Dovizioso on the Humangest Honda. Britain’s Dan linfoot has qualified in 28th on the Winona Racing Honda, ahead of Nicklas Cajback, Alessio Palumbo and Franz Aschenbrenner.For the full time sheet, click here.

Britain’s Bradley Smith has qualified in a provisional eighth place in the 125cc class first qualifying session with a time of 2:17.780. The Repsol Honda rider is almost two seconds behind provisional pole man Julian Simon, but is ahead of 29 riders, including reigning champion Thomas Luthi. Valentino Rossi has gone fastest in the first free practice session for the Italian GP at Mugello on June 4, 2006.
The reigning world champion confirmed he will stay with Yamaha in MotoGP for 2007 on Thursday, June 1, and has shown he means business with a best lap of 1:51.238. He finished the sessions just faster than the Ducati duo of Loris Capirossi (1:51.599) and Sete Gibernau (1:51.907). Casey Stoner was an impressive fourth quickest with 1:52.222.

Dani Pedrosa has some work to do on the Repsol Honda, having gone 15th fastest, while Britian’s James Ellison was 19th in the session with 1:56.532. To see the full time sheet, click here.

In 250cc free practice, Andrea Dovizioso has posted a fastest time of 1:56.495 on the Humangest Honda, heading the Aprilias of Jorge Lorenzo and Alex Debon.
