All change for Hopkins

1 of 1

Rizla Suzuki rider John Hopkins and F1 driver Tonio Liuzzi could not resist the opportunity to swap machines during testing at Valencia this week.

Both Hopkins and Liuzzi, who drives for Scuderia Toro Rosso, are part of the Red Bull family who organised the event.

Hopkins had to have a seat made for him to fit into the F1 car correctly and has been looking forward to the experience for some time.

The Californian spun a couple of times but settled into the different style of going round the circuit quite easily. His aim had been to lap in a similar time to that on his bike but he beat this by almost 12 seconds recording a 1:19.8 in the F1.

Liuzzi’s love of bikes has now grown since this experiment, describing his two-wheeled colleagues as ‘not human’.

The excitable Italian took it easy on the Rizla Suzuki as he is testing his Toro Rosso in two weeks time and did not want to have to explain any injuries to his bosses.
