MotoGP: Illness rules Chris Vermeulen out of Misano MotoGP test

Factory Suzuki rider Chris Vermeulen has taken only a minor part in today’s Misano MotoGP test session having been sidelined by illness.

Less than 24 hours after his impressive second place finish behind fellow Aussie Casey Stoner in the Misano MotoGP, Chris Vermeulen was due back on track to complete an exhaustive test session for Bridgestone.

But the former World Superbike runner-up withdrew from the test after just a few laps as he was still suffering from a bout of food poisoning he picked up last week.

Chris Vermeulen had been ill in the build-up to last weekend’s Misano MotoGP having been struck down by food poisoning.

The combination of not feeling 100 per cent and riding in a gruelling 28-lap MotoGP race left Chris Vermeulen ‘physically drained’ this morning, according to a Rizla Suzuki team member.

“Chris hadn’t been well in the days before the race. Misano is a very physical track and the race was run in very hot conditions.

“He pushed very hard to try and catch Casey and he was just drained. He’s got no strength left so it was decided best for him to rest up,” said a team source.
