Estoril MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo takes first MotoGP win

1 of 1

Jorge Lorenzo has taken his first premiere class win just three races in to his first MotoGP season, while Brit James Toseland takes 7th.

Valentino Rossi took the lead in the early part of the race but couldn’t keep up his early fast pace and lost first to Lorenzo on lap 10 then quickly slipped back to third behind Pedrosa.

Lorenzo quickly started to build a lead and as much as Pedrosa tried he could not reel him back in having to settle for second ahead of Rossi.

Colin Edwards put in an impressive race to take fourth position while running the new pneumatic valve engine. Working his way through the field with Nicky Hayden the two Americans put in consistent personal bests until Hayden lost the front and crashed out with 12 laps to go leaving Edwards to take fourth.

John Hopkins ran with the front runners for a lot of the race despite still recovering from injury and eventually took fifth behind Edwards.

Casey Stoner eventually managed to come back to take sixth position after a terrible run that saw him dip down to 11th.

James Toseland put in another impressive run in his rookie season to take seventh place. The double World Superbike champion is still getting to grips with the MotoGP Yamaha and said he didn’t realise just how hard you could push in the dizzly conditions.
