Brno MotoGP Reaction: Podium delight for Toni Elias Spaniard

Toni Elias pulled off a shock podium in Brno today to put a miserable campaign behind him.

The Alice Ducati rider has had a torrid time in 2008 and before last month’s American GP in Laguna Seca he hadn’t even claimed one top ten finish in the opening ten races.

Elias though was in stunning form in Brno to finish second after a brilliant surge through the field from the fifth row of the grid.

Elias’ fortunes have been transformed by a new rear link he was given in the Sachsenring last month and he said: “I am very happy with my performance.

“Since Germany we have improved a lot also thanks to the new technical material received by Ducati. I also thought I could have done a podium in Laguna Seca but I made a mistake and I couldn’t make it. Today everything went in the right direction. I am sure that we can maintain the same level for the rest of the season.”

Elias also dismissed rumours that he was to switch to World Superbikes in 2009.
“I heard rumours that wanted me in World Superbike next season. I never spoke to anybody in Superbike and I want to remain in MotoGP for many more years. If things will go well in this final part of the season I don’t see why I should change team.”
