Kallio tops Jerez tests

1 of 1

After two days of Aprilia dominance, Red Bull KTM returned to the forefront in Jerez at the final session of 250cc action today.

Pleasant temperatures and less wind than earlier in the week allowed many riders to improve their times, but the two who really made it count were Mika Kallio and Hiroshi Aoyama.

Kallio’s time of 1’43.303 put him at the head of a list of eight riders within the same second of Alvaro Bautista’s time from yesterday, although Bautista himself finished the test behind countrymen Hector Barbera and Alex Debon.

Having given those at the track a scare yesterday with a crash, Roberto Locatelli once again took a tumble at Jerez. The Italian escaped unhurt, as did Metis Gilera team/mate Marco Simoncelli, Julian Simon, Lukas Pesek, Faubel and Barbera.
Brit Eugene Laverty was 20th overall on the Blusens Aprilia.

Teams from both 250cc and 125cc will be back on track next week in Valencia for further testing.
