Qatar MotoGP: Brits continue domination

Bradley Smith continued his superb form in Qatar tonight with a last lap attack securing the Oxfordshire rider the fastest time in the second free practice session.

Smith, who claimed provisional pole last night and also topped the timesheets in the first free practice, pipped fellow British rider Scott Redding to top spot with a best lap of 2.06.176.

That denied Blusens Aprilia rider Redding, who had posted a 2.06.538 in the dying seconds to leap to the top of the timesheets.

Bradley Smith’s best on his last lap was 0.362secs clear of surprise package Redding, with Brits claiming 1-2 for the second time in three sessions in Qatar.

Danny Webb joined Polaris World Aprilia rider Bradley Smith on the provisional front row last night. Webb ended tonight’s first session with the ninth best time – a 2.07.057 seeing him 0.8secs off Smith.

The performances of Smith, Redding and Danny Webb have dramatically raised expectations for British fans ahead of tomorrow’s 18-lap season opener.

You have to go back 40 years for the last British 1-2 in a 125GP, when Bill Ivy and Phil Read were first and second in the 1968 Italian MotoGP at Monza.
