MotoGP: Casey Stoner tough to beat says John Hopkins

Factory Kawasaki rider John Hopkins believes reigning world champion Casey Stoner is going to be tough to beat after the Aussie’s blistering start to the 2008 MotoGP series.

Stoner continued his brilliant 2007 form in the historic night race in Qatar last weekend, winning by over five seconds from rookie Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo.

It was the perfect start to the defence of his crown and John Hopkins fears the 22-year-old might replicate his domination of 2007 when the factory Ducati rider won 10 races.

Hopkins, who had a tough debut on Kawasaki’s ZX-RR as he battled front-end grip issues and the pain from a torn groin muscle suffered in a 100mph testing crash, told MCN: “Without a doubt he’s the man to beat.

“Some of the new guys look really strong but it’s going to be tough to beat Casey after what we’ve seen so far.”
