MotoGP: Night race talks held for Sepang

The company behind the multi-million pound lighting project in Qatar have confirmed preliminary discussions have taken place with Sepang circuit officials about hosting a night race.

The Malaysian circuit has expressed an interest in staging a MotoGP and Formula One race at night to boost TV viewing figures in Europe.

A night race in the Far East would capture European audiences at the normal 2pm time slot. And officials from Musco Lighting, the Iowa-based company that lit the Losail International Circuit, have held talks with Sepang bosses.

History was created in Qatar recently when it hosted the first night race for MotoGP.

That beat Formula One, which will be run at night for the first time later this year in Singapore.

Musco vice-president Jeff Rogers said: “The primary reason for going to night time is to help the TV fans and to hit the right time slots in Europe.

“Anything that is east of Qatar is a location that they have interest in.

“We have some various discussions with people including representatives from Sepang.”
